The Smallest Nano Cache We've Found!

We had to drop off some more papers at the bank for the loan on our 'new' house, so of course I had to find geocaches nearby. (The bank says we're APPROVED!!!!)

Our GPS indicated we could head toward a pretty city park a couple blocks away.

Early on, we figured it was on this bench. But we looked and looked. I'm surprised someone didn't call the police because hubby even got on his back under the bench looking for this 'nano cache'.

Finally, I spotted it!!!!  Here's a photo of it under the bench, in a crack on the side. It is a magnet that unscrews so you can get to the paper log rolled up inside.

We knew it was somewhere on the bench because the hint said to "sit on the bench and look at the bell tower'.  But, it is surely just about the smallest one they make.

(Jim's sun glasses on the sidewalk look small in this photo!)

There's the rolled up 'log', but we didn't pull it out.
It takes tweezers that we didn't have with us.
And, I didn't believe we could put it back!

The hint said to 'sit on the bench', so I did.

Don't forget the little things!

Four Seasons

As I did a little geocaching on a beautiful, balmy, Denver afternoon, I stopped to photograph this loaded apple tree. No apples yet, but check back in a few months for the delicious ending.

Oh yes, about this particular geocache...I walked past the sign several times looking for the 'cache'.
(It's in a small plastic bag behind the sign.)

Happy Geocaching!

A Sign About Nothing

For some reason, sometimes I just can't get the gist of my GPS and get confused if I'm suppose to go right or left.  I run (or drive) around in circles while I drive (or walk) right by the geocache I'm looking for again and again! It happened with this one.  I WAS looking for a "sign about nothing', but it was a little further down the road than I expected.

Here's a photo of the "sign about nothing."
Too Cute!

...and a very unique 'cache' sits quietly since 2007
at the bottom of the 'sign about nothing'.

Heavenly View #43 - Victory Church

(I don't name these caches. This is the official name given by the geocacher who placed them.)

A beautiful apple tree, full of pink and white blossoms stood next to this cache. (Hidden at the bottom of a light pole in the parking lot.)  I plucked a blossom and put it into the little medicine container that held the log.

This is what I posted on the website for this cache:

As the sun sets on this Friday evening, many people worldwide are starting to celebrate the Sabbath day. Others are waiting in long lines at Olive Garden or other fine restaurants. I'm enjoying another geocaching experience!. This one right next to a beautiful apple tree full of pink and white blossoms. I put a tiny blossom into the cache container. I'll post a photo of the blossoms on the apple tree. TFTC

Happy Sabbath and Happy Geocaching

Collar ID #4 PS

(I lost a photo in my first posting of this cache)

One more geocache on my way home from the grocery store.
...Where I saved LOTS of money using COUPONS.

You be right if you guessed this one is located behind a vet's office. (See title)
Such a cute little cache container attached to the inside of this prickly pine tree.
After walking all around the tree and searching under it, I decided it's in the branches...

You can't see him well in this photo, but a little bunny rabbit was watching me.

It's the small container below the silver spot.
It held a tiny log to sign and replace.

Happy Geocaching!

Mondo's Red Rocks

Hubby and I went for a ride up to the Golden Mountain and took the long way home on Highway 93 between Boulder and Denver because of rush-hour traffic on Highway 25.  While driving, I had the GPS turned on for nearby geocaches.

We decided to find one called Mondo's Red Rocks expecting to see it near the usual formidable red rock formation filling the skyline.  As got closer, we didn't see any red rocks - big or little.  We had trouble following the GPS because it kept losing the signal.  But, once on a trail, we don't give up.

We always enjoy the wind turbines, but today we were looking for a geocache.
The cold, wet, wind was howling around us as we got out of the car to follow the signal down an embankment towards a field.  Click on the photo for a close up of the turbine wind farm in the distance.  Yep, that's our car way up there.

The Red Rock Geocache is around here someplace!
GPS says we're close to the cache, but not quite there. Do we have to climb over the fence?

Ha ha ha.  Look down Linda!

Don't step on it!

Success!!! Hurry up and sign the log. I'm COLD.

Hobo Something

Yesterday I spent about four hours on the road going to a job interview for a RN House Supervisor position that I didn't want. But, it's a long story. Sometimes it's about politics...I went for that interview because I DO want an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) position that I applied for that is about five miles from home.

Not that I'm quitting my current job, but the charge nurse position is being eliminated, and my company is helping me find another RN job at a sister facility. (That's the long story part.)

So, on the way home, I 'looked' for geocaches in that part of town.  I wrote down the name on a piece of paper, but can't find the paper, so I'm naming this one Hobo because I think that was part of the name.  (Okay, I'm babbling...)

This is the first I've found that looks like this.
Yep, it's a 'geo rock'!!!
So next time, trust my GPS!
The GPS said I was walking right past the cache when I took this picture.
But, of course, I didn't believe it.
I walked on and got two inches of mud on my shoes!

What looks slightly out of place?

Happy Geocaching!

Mondo's Club or The Ranch

No. It's not, The Girl's Ranch, where Sandy and I would sleep at night in the Missouri rain as it pelted the old, tin roof, and the chickens clucked when a fox sniffed at the door to the hen house under our little beds. (See page 47 of my book, Dusty Angels and Old Diaries)

No. It's not a country club either. But it's a hiding spot for another one of Mondo's flourishing spread of geocaches near Denver, Colorado.

I was on my way home from Wendy's with a couple of their delicious baked potatoes for our lunch. I'm recovering from the flu, so cooking is not something I'm fussy about these days. As usual, I turned on the iPhone app for nearby geocaches, and found one right on the way home.

Pulling off the road and parking beside these signs, I quickly zeroed in on the bush to the left. Inside the thick green branches there dangled a small film canister with the usual tiny baglet and sign-in log.

The potatoes were still hot, and I was smiling. What more can one ask for?

Mondo's, Oh For Heaven's Sake!

Now this one was the most elusive little geocache I've ever hunted for. According to our brand new GPS, this one should have been near the front of a convenience store. I suspected someplace on the telephone, but even standing on my head did not produce any sign of a geocache at all.  Geo hubby was sure we were looking in the wrong place.

I went home and checked the website to see what other geocachers were posting about this cache. There were many hints about the phone, and quite a few "did not find" notes!  How in the world could there be a geocache on this phone or anywhere near it?

Last night I wrote a note on the website for this cache stating that I'd been there at least five times, and couldn't find a hint of it.

I wrote, "I'm going back there and call Mondo for another hint."  (Joking. I don't know who Mondo is!")

Funny thing, this morning I had an EMAIL from Mondo!!!  He told me where it was!!!!!  That is just what I wanted. I hurried back to the store and even sitting in the car in front of the telephone, I still didn't see it, but I knew where it was!!!!!

See?  It's a business card-sized piece of magnet stuck UNDER the bottom of the phone.
The "log" is a piece of paper stuck to the magnet...
I picked it loose with my fingernail, signed it, and stuck it back.

For the record, we don't think this is quite geocaching 'friendly' in geocaching terms. It's so close to the front door of the store that employees have gotten pretty nervous at the 'suspicious' behavior outside.  I went inside and asked the employees (who were seen looking out the window at me) if they knew anything about the geocache that was suppose to be there. They looked at me very blankly and shook their heads, "no".

Yeah, the only part of this cache that holds true, is the title.

A Good Place to Stop

After dropping off some paperwork for our 'new' house, we just had to see how many geocaches were in the area of our realtor.
The road for this stop sign leads to an abandoned factory, so maybe that explains the deterioration of this poor sign.
GPS indicated that this was the spot, but there sure wasn't much to look at!
Geo hubby checked it out up and down and all around.
"Nah", he said. "Nothing there."
I reached down and felt along the edge of the cement (what's left of it) and discovered...
the film canister tucked just under the edge of the cement.
Oh well, some days are golden. Some are 'stone'.
We signed the teny, tiny log and left a yellow catseye marble so it wouldn't be all so lonely.
